ISAR is an annual event between civilian volunteer members of
the Coast Guard Auxiliaries of the United States and Canada. Each nation has six
teams, each of which will be challenged to demonstrate competence in the skills
required to successfully accomplish a maritime Search & Rescue (SAR) mission.
ISAR 2006 features 9 separate, competitive events that are designed to test the
volunteers ability to plan, communicate, and execute a maritime SAR mission.
Each team will compete in events such as chart work, search planning, on-water
rescue, emergency dewatering pump operation, communications, and other mission
essential SAR tasks.
The competition will take place on Friday, October 27, and Saturday, October 28,
at the Portsmouth, Virginia, Seawall at the North Ferry Landing adjacent to the
Renaissance Hotel.
On Saturday evening the ISAR competition will be climaxed by an Awards Banquet
at the Renaissance Hotel that will recognize the 2006 International Champion
along with awards to each National Champion and to the Best Team in each
individual event. At the conclusion of the evening, the ISAR flag will be passed
to the Canadian Host for the 2007 ISAR Competition.
On October 27 and 28, come to the Portsmouth Waterfront and see Americas and
Canada's Volunteer Lifesavers in action!
